Judith Ann Mendez, age 77, passed away with family in her presence on December 2, 2020, after a brief, unexpected illness. Judy was an amazing wife, mother, and Mimi who will be remembered for the way she was always smiling and praying, especially for her family and friends that she loved unconditionally.
Judy was born on November 24, 1943, in Center, Texas, to Ross and Amy Ramsey. She was the oldest of five children and graduated from Brazosport High School in 1962. Judy moved to Houston to attend business school and then met and married Raymond Simper in 1964, and they had three children. Judy spent many years working to support her children and volunteering with various ministries at her home parish of St. Thomas Aquinas, where she was a founding parishioner. In 1994, Judy married Lucio Mendez. They have been active members of the St. Luke's Prayer Group since its inception, and these valued friendships have brought them much happiness. Their great joys as a couple included traveling, playing dominoes with her brothers and their wives, and spoiling their seven entertaining grandchildren.
Anyone who knew Judy would tell you that she was an incredible woman of faith and was so proud of her family. Judy is known as the ultimate prayer warrior organizer and sent out prayer requests to hundreds of people on behalf of her friends and family at least once a day. She is now certainly a powerful intercessor for us and instilled in many the importance of covering one another in prayer. If she ever hugged you, you certainly received a blessing at the same time. She had a strong commitment to the Blessed Virgin Mary and prayed the Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy several times a day. During COVID, she and Lucio also attended several daily Masses online, praying for the needs of their family, friends, and the world. Judy was known for her incredible memory and thoughtful spirit, ensuring to communicate well wishes on birthdays and anniversaries, with extraordinary diligence every single year. Judy had an overflowing spirit of love and belief in the goodness of all. She loved people because God created them, and she was a most dedicated servant of her precious Savior, Jesus Christ.
Judy is survived by her loving husband Lucio Mendez, Jr.; her children, Ron Simper (Pam) of Forest Hill, MD and Debbie Haney (Jason) of Sugar Land, TX. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Clayton Simper in Tomball, Matthew Simper in College Station, Hannah and Nicholas Haney in Sugar Land, and Nalin, Falsten, and Loden Simper in Maryland. She is also survived by her three brothers: Ken Ramsey and his wife Mary of Jones Creek, TX; David Ramsey and his wife Susan of League City, TX; and Jerry Ramsey and his wife Glynis of Carrollton, TX, and a multitude of cousins, nieces, and nephews as well as a host of many countless good friends. Judy is preceded in death by her parents, her son Rick Simper, her sister Lois Howard and her husband Gary, her niece Jolene Howard, as well as other beloved relatives and friends.
