1940-2021
Born Judy Ann Morriss, died the afternoon of Tuesday, March 16th, 2021. A Fourth generation Texan, daughter of John Walter Morriss, Jr. and Winona Schlesinger Morriss of Houston Texas.
Judy was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on August 28th 1940. She lived in many cities during her younger years as a coaches’ daughter her favorite being East Lansing, Michigan, where she was an amazing ice skater and participated in Ice Dancing. In 1955 the family moved to Houston when her dad accepted the track and field coaching position at the University of Houston. Judy attended and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1958.
Upon graduating High School, she attended the University of Houston where she would become a leader amongst her peers. She was Vice-President of her class, Homecoming Queen and a member and officer of the Chi-Omega Sorority. One of her greater passions was representing the University of Houston on the Cheerleading Team.
As a student at U of H, she dedicated her studies to Home Economics developing skills that would awake a passion that would continue throughout her life. Judy loved her fashion and became the ambassador of The Foleys college board, solely representing the University of Houston. Along with single representatives from the University of Texas, SMU, TCU, Rice, Baylor, Texas Women’s, LSU and Oklahoma, the group was instrumental in advising Foleys on purchasing decisions on seasonal fashion trends.
At U of H she met the love of her life David Norman Jones, who would become her husband of 43 years. As a most loving, supporting and caring mother to their 2 boys, David and Craig, Judy would do whatever was asked of her – whether that was to be an at home mother or a working professional. Once the boys had established themselves in Jr High and High School, Judy would return to work as an Executive Secretary at Synercom Technology. Judy took on this roll like any other she had and excelled. Playing an instrumental role in the success of the company and it’s roll as a leader in technology.
As a loving mother and grandmother she continually worked on smocked outfits that were truly works of art. She could sew, smock, fix, create and recreate almost anything. Judy was also a phenomenal cook who loved to entertain and spend time with family. You could always find her at one of her grandkids events or a Cougar Football game.
Of all her accomplishments she was most proud of her two boys, their loving families and their many successes. She is survived by her sons David Norman Jones, Jr. and his wife Martha Jordan Jones; John Craig Jones and his wife Stacey Daugherty Jones. Her five loving grandchildren Paige, Peyton, Jared, Justin and Mason; her sister Peggy Vineyard; her sister-in-law Linda Landau and husband Jeff; her sister-in-law Linda Morriss and many adoring nieces, nephews and family members.
