Kelvin Sandiman Moulton .. also known by his adoring friends and family as Ken or Vinnie, was born on June 24 in the small district of Lime Hall, St. Ann Jamaica to parents Doreen Moulton and Lesley Ashmeade. He was the only child for Doreen who doted on him. Kelvin, though from a small town, did not have a small mindset. He was very ambitious and dreamt big. He was a brilliant boy. Sitting and passing his 1st, 2nd and 3rd year exams. Most people would be comfortable having just attained those levels, which was a big deal back in the day, but not Kelvin. He applied for and gained a place to attend the well-respected Dinthill Technical High School for boys. After leaving Dinthill Kelvin got his first job to be overseer-Busha at Monymusk Sugar Plantation, a job that came with a horse, a house and maids. During his time at Money Musk, he also made a name for himself as a respected cricketer. Oh yes! He's also Kelvin the athlete, a well-respected hurdler who was at some point been airmarked to join the Jamaica National team.
It was during this season of the young upwardly mobile Kelvin’s life that he was blessed to have fathered 3 lovely children, Donna, Basil, and Dean.
After leaving Monymusk, Kelvin went to work at Good Year Jamaica and then Colgate Palmolive. After leaving Colgate he was personnel manager at Estate Industries, the company that made Tia Maria on Spanish Town road. He then made the decision to pursue a degree. He applied and was accepted into a Program at the prestigious University of the West Indies, not as a part time student considering he had a full-time job. He was a full-time student while holding down a full-time job. Kelvin’s brilliance and aptitude lead to his rapid acceleration up the corporate ladder. Leading the charge as a seasoned and well-respected Human Resource influence in the region.
While Kelvin was moving up the corporate ladder and making a name for himself in corporate Jamaica, there was to be an ordained encounter that would forever change the course of Kelvin's life. There was that fine day when Kelvin went to pick up something at the pharmacy at U.W.I., and it just so happened that a brilliant and beautiful nursing student, Lucille, would be there at that time who caught his eyes. They started a conversation and Kelvin says, “it was love at first sight”. Kelvin was not going to let this winning combination of beauty and brains out of his sight. They became inseparable except for a short stint where she went to study midwifery in England.
Upon her return Kelvin knew she was to be his forever, he proposed, and in 1977 they tied the knot. Kelvin jokes that he had to propose more than once because the first time she said no... Lol. Maybe it’s that saltfish soup that he made while trying to win her. Cooking was never a skill Kelvin was able to master. However, his dearest Lus more than made up that gap with her excellent culinary and baking skills.
In 1979 Lus decided to pursue greener pastures and immigrated to the United States. Kelvin said that although he was at the top of his game in every way. A top executive, with all the trimmings, he was not going to be away from his dearest Lus for any extended time. In that same year just a few months later he joined her in the United States. Where they settled in Beaumont, Texas. And in August 1982 their union became fruitful with the birth of their beloved son Christopher.
It was while he worked for the city of Beaumont that Kelvin became strong about any acts of injustice. And was known to take on a cause for which he won in court. A very determined, self–driven and ambitious Kelvin decided to go back to school to attain his master's degree from the University of Houston and later a doctorate from LaSalle University.
Kelvin and Lucille had a very strong sense of community, and their home was often the hub for many activities within the Caribbean community. Thanksgiving dinners, Friday night domino events. They were strong supporters of any community outreach events to give back especially to their island of Jamaica. Dr. Moulton had a booming voice and a very strong and vibrant personality. The life of the party don’t say! “guh deh mamma.”
He loved to travel and travelled extensively visiting family in England on several occasions and enjoyed and loved British history and heritage; visiting family in Huddersfield, Leicester and Walsall and places such as Central London, Stratford upon Avon, York, Sheffield and Haworth.
Dr. Moulton had a passion for Real Estate; he could talk about real estate, all day, every day. He was the owner and founder of Synergy Internationale' Realty, for which he was a Real Estate Broker. He played active roles in NAREB, TAREB, Rotary, Domino Club, and the Jamaica Association in Houston Texas. Dr. Moulton was a man with the highest integrity. A neighbor stated that when she wanted to sell her house, which could have meant a commission for Dr. Moulton instead, he encouraged her to stay in her home. Dr. Moulton was a quick wit and quite a jokester. There is a running joke about the “missing person” poster.
There was nothing that Dr. Moulton could not do. He was the man behind the camera; he designed and built his office in Beaumont from scratch. He loved to collect what he thought were antiques, which he believed would be invaluable at some point in the future. Loved dancing, singing and listening to good music. Known for his sharp intellect, charisma, and unmistakable sense of humor. Kelvin was a gifted storyteller whose laughter and wit filled every room. Whether his stories were factual or embellished, they were always memorable and always witty. Dr. Moulton could fit into any social group or age. Truly a one-of-a-kind Maverick. Who loved God, his family and humanity.
Dr. Moulton became sick and was hospitalized on January 19th, 2025, an illness he never fully recovered from. And on January 5th, 2026, he passed at the Methodist Hospital Sugarland. Dr. Moulton is forever with his one true love Dearest Lus who preceded him on July 30th, 2022. Their reunion marks the closing of a remarkable love story that spanned decades and crossed continents.
Dr. Moulton leaves behind him to mourn his children Donna, Basil, Dean, and Christopher. Grand and great grandchildren, sisters and brothers, in-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.
Dr. Kelvin S. Moulton the self proclaimed “Barret from Wimpole Street”, the legend, was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished friend who will be truly missed
