Lynn Ann Mathems, age 74, of Richmond, Texas, went to be with Jesus in the late evening of Tuesday, October 1, 2024. As incredibly heartbroken as we are to say goodbye on earth, we find comfort in knowing she would be welcomed into her heavenly home by her son, Richard Breyman, and her loving parents, whom she couldn’t wait to see again.
Lynn was born on December 3, 1949, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to John and Catherine (O’Connell) Grisell. As a young girl, she would fondly speak of her visits to the train yard where her father worked the Burlington Northern Rail Road and of her time spent in the kitchen with her mother, who taught her how to cook her most famous, unforgettable meals.
Lynn was a loving wife, mom, Gram, and friend who spent most of her time caring for her loved ones. She was the matriarch of our family.
She was always present and had a list, written in delicate cursive handwriting, for every little occasion. She was constantly planning her next family dinner and preparing to make any birthday, holiday, or life event the most special one to be celebrated. She made every holiday magical by decorating her home beautifully, especially for Christmas, when she was well-known for gifting each family member personalized Christmas stockings.
She was especially famous for her 5-star meals, like chicken and dumplings and grandma’s cracker chicken. She was a natural at cooking and always gave leftovers or warm meals if someone was in need.
Most of all, she gave the best warm hugs and had a hearty, full laugh that was unforgettable.
Her kind-hearted ways of giving were unique. They touched all those around her, and she will sorely be missed.
In her leisure, she enjoyed spending quality time with her adoring husband and best friend, Scott, and their dogs. No matter the time of day, you’d often find them sitting on their patio with a cup of coffee, enjoying the day and each other. They’d frequently pick a few stores to browse before going to dinner, a weekend ritual which gave herself a night off from cooking, she’d say.
She enjoyed the simple ways of nature, was comforted by the sound of train horns, donated to pet rescues, dearly loved her neighbors and friends, faithfully participated in her bible study group, and was creative with her spiritual writings.
Lynn is survived by her husband, Scott Mathems; her two daughters and their families, Kari (Thomas) Thompson and Sarah (Daniel) Pawlowski; her five grandchildren, Dylon Breyman, Tommy Thompson, Nicole Weidemeyer, Emily Thompson, and Oliver Pawlowski; and her niece, Katie Grisell.

A note from Sarah on behalf of the family;
To my beautiful mom, thank you for the life and memories you gave us. We know Ricky welcomed you with open arms—what a joyous moment to behold. You are walking freely now in God’s garden with your dear friend, Jesus, until it’s time to call us home.
“I hope that I see the world as you did 'cause I know
A life with love is a life that's been lived
So I'll sing Hallelujah
You were an angel in the shape of my mom
When I fell down you'd be there holding me up
Spread your wings as you go
And when God takes you back we'll say Hallelujah
You're home”
