Marcia Lorente Wellen, age 68, passed away at home on July 30, 2024, in Sugar Land, Texas. Marcia Lorente was born in Santiago De Cuba, Cuba on November 24, 1955, the daughter of Dr. Guido O. Lorente and Juana de Carmen Gonzalez Garcia Lorente. Marcia was the eldest of three children. When she was 14 years old, the family emigrated from Cuba, spending time in Madrid, New York, Miami, and then Nashville, where Marcia attended Belmont College. The family settled in Waco, Texas in 1976. In Waco, her father worked as a psychiatrist at the VA hospital and Marcia attended Baylor University where she met the love of her life, Darrell Wellen.
Marcia and Darrell married on April 2, 1977. Their two sons were born in Houston, Texas, and the family later moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. Although Marcia and Darrell later returned to the Houston area, their time together included a five-year adventure living in Perth, Australia, where Marcia was able to pursue her passion for photography and travel. Marcia received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston and then graduated from the University of Houston Pharmacy School in 1987. She worked as a retail pharmacist until her retirement in 2009.
Marcia loved bringing friends and family together, including through cooking and exploring new cuisines and restaurants. She especially looked forward to attending afternoon high tea. She enjoyed music from New Orleans and Cuba and from the 1940s and watching Perry Mason and foreign movies. Although Marcia had many interests, her grandchildren were her greatest joy and the light of her life. She FaceTimed with them every day and always made holidays and birthdays tremendous celebrations.
Marcia Lorente Wellen is survived by her husband of 47 years, Darrell Wellen; Sister, Marisol Lorenete Allgeier (Cyril Allgeier); her brother, Guido S. Lorente (Lori Lorente); and her sons, Dr. Marcus Wellen (Maria Melguizo Wellen) and Dr. Kevin Wellen (Eva Dossier Wellen); grandchildren, Eloisa, Remy, Simone, and Vance; niece, Lauren; and three nephews, Cyril, Bryan and Adam, whom she loved like her own children; and their children, all of whom she adored.
