Marina Flores was born on January 7, 1953, in Edinburg, Texas, to Eusebio and Olivia Hernandez. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Marina passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025, in Sugar Land, Texas, at the age of 72.
Marina was the embodiment of determination and kindness. She was a proud graduate of Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas, earning her Bachelor of Science degree along with a provisional certification in language and learning disabilities. She completed both high school and college in just three years, driven by her passion to make a meaningful impact on the world. Her career as a special education teacher at Dulles Middle School in Sugar Land allowed her to fulfill that dream. She dedicated her life to helping children gain the tools and confidence they needed to succeed, leaving a lasting impression on her students and their families.
Marina’s life was a testament to love and adventure. She met her soulmate, Arturo Flores, in high school, and together they defined the meaning of soulmates. Arturo stood by Marina’s side through every challenge, including her treatments, always showing her the depth of his love and care. Their bond was an inspiration to all who knew them. Over their 53 years of marriage, they built a beautiful life together, raising three children—Rodney, Arturo J., and Alyssa—and sharing countless adventures.
Marina had an adventurous spirit and an enduring love for travel. She and Arturo explored the outdoors whenever they could, with the Pacific Northwest and Oregon Coast becoming their cherished home away from home. After her retirement, the couple embraced life on the road with their RV, creating countless memories with their family. When she wasn’t traveling, Marina found joy in gardening, hiking, and baking.
Marina’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She adored her role as a wife, mother, finding fulfillment in the legacy of love she built with Arturo. She is survived by her devoted husband, Arturo Flores; her children, Alyssa M. Leon and husband Roland, Rodney D. Flores, and Arturo J. Flores and spouse Lara Nguyen Flores; and her siblings, Javier, Jamie, Eusebio Jr. Hernande and Yolanda Lusignan.
Marina is preceded in death by her parents, Eusebio and Olivia Hernandez, and her siblings Sylvia, and David Hernandez.
Marina Flores was a shining example of a life well-lived. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
The family would like to give special thank you to MD Anderson Cancer Center, for their services and allowing Marina 15 plus years of life that allowed her to travel her dream world along the Pacific Northwest coast.
