We are so saddened to share the unexpected passing of Michael Wayne Ondrias, on July 7, 2025, at his home in Sugar Land, Texas. Michael was born in Wharton, Texas, November 22, 1966, to Helen Weselski Ondrias and James Ondrias.
Michael attended Wharton High School where he began his baseball pitching career. He played four years at WHS before entering College at Lamar University on a Baseball scholarship. In addition to excelling at baseball, while attending Lamar Michael earned a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, graduating number one in his class. With his baseball achievements, Michael’s academic excellence earned him membership in the Blue Key Honor Society.
Michael had more than 30 years of worldwide project management operations experience for major upstream and downstream process facilities. Including his employment with Flour Daniels of Houston where he was employed for over 20 years, working his way up from Project Director to Senior Project Director.
In that role, Michael led many multi-billion-dollar projects, both domestically and internationally, one project landing him in South Africa, where he lived for 4 years. Michael’s experience across commodities led him to be one of the few Senior Project Directors with the credentials to manage multi-billion-dollar LNG projects.
Michael loved the outdoors and spent many great hunting trips with his brothers, nephews, and friends throughout the years at Leakey and the Uvalde deer lease. Not to mention his many fishing trips at Matagorda Bay!...”Mother Mary get the net!”
But the love of his life was his daughter Meagan. Michael loved being Meagan’s dad and participated in her sporting activities, camping with the scouts, school, science projects and making it all so much fun. He taught Meagan about “pulling pranks” and not a day went by that one of them wasn’t pulling a prank or getting pranked! Michael loved his daughter so very much and was extremely proud of her and all she accomplished in just a few years of her life! Meagan was his world!
Michael never met a stranger and was loved by so many family and friends. He will be remembered for his dedication to, and love for, his daughter, his family and friends, his work, life, and a good prank!
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Ondrias and his father James Ondrias. He is survived by his brothers James Ondrias, Jr. (Dolly), Ronald Ondrias (Deana), Darrell Ondrias (Nancy); sisters, LaVerne Gilligan (Jim), Linda Hancock (J R) and Julie Washburn (Matt).
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association in Michael’s name.
Michael was laid to rest with his mother at Evergreen Cemetery on October 10,2025 in Wharton.
