

SARAH JAIN HANNON UZZI, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, went to be with the Lord on December 31, 2014. Born on January 17, 1921 in Pampa, Texas, to James Edwin Hannon and Katherine Demaris Land Hannon, she moved to Vernon, Texas, as a young girl. Sarah went to Texas Tech University, where she met Paul Ralph Uzzi from New York, the love of her life, at a USO dance during World War II. They married and had 58 wonderful years together. Paul and Sarah had three children Michael, Suzanne, and Robert. In 1946, the family moved to Houston where she taught school for over 31 years. She taught at Kashmere Gardens School, Fannin Elementary and in Spring Branch Housman Elementary School. Sarah received her BA from Texas Tech, Master’s Degree from the University of Houston and Reading Specialist Certificate from Texas A&M University. Retiring in 1984, Paul and Sarah moved to the Columbus, Texas area, where she started a Literacy Program in Colorado County and taught tutors and students for three years. After that, she became proficient in genealogy and joined numerous genealogical organizations. Participating in these organizations, she held many local and state offices. Some of her organizations include: Shropshire-Upton United Daughters of the Confederacy, John Alston Colonial Dames XVII Century, John Everett Daughters of the Revolution, The Huguenot Society of Texas, Magna Charta Dames, Sons and Daughters of Pilgrims, Daughters of Cincinnati, and many others. She was a long time member of Columbus United Methodist Church and a charter member of Fair Haven United Methodist Church in Houston.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Ralph Uzzi; and her sister, Mary Hannon Hyrczyk.
Survivors include her children, Michael G. and Nancy Uzzi, Suzanne J. and Judge Robert J. Kern, and Robert L. and Patricia Uzzi; grandchildren, Paul A. and Kelli Uzzi, Kelley C. and Kathryn Uzzi, Catherine C. Uzzi, Dr. William Paul and Carolyn Flinn, Kristine D. and Dane Merriman, and Shelby E. and Mallory Stewart; great-grandchildren, Krystal, Kaitlin, Kaia , Colt and Kendall Uzzi, Alexandra, Margaret and Jett Flinn, and Scyler, and Tristan and Dawson Merriman; and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Sunday, January 4, 2015, at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land (Williams Trace Exit). Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM, Monday, January 5, 2015, at Sugar Land First United Methodist Church, 431 Eldridge Road, Sugar Land. Interment will follow at 4:00 PM, at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery, in Columbus, TX, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Paul.
