WIlburn served his country during the Korean conflict and was sta-tioned in El Paso. He was later transferred to Germany. In 1982, he visited Germany and was fortunate enough to visit the area where he was stationed while in the Army.
On April 22, 1956 he married Gloria Sommer at Martin Lu-ther Lutheran Church in Carmine, TX. Gloria was truly the love of his life and they were married for almost 60 years. He was blessed with three children, eleven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. His family is perhaps his greatest legacy.
He worked as a machinist at W.K.M. for 38 years and was an inspector in the Quality Assurance Department. He was a hard worker and instilled the same work ethic into his family.
On December 2, 1992 he suffered a severe debilitating stroke leaving his left side paralyzed. He also had other health issues. His family is extremely grateful for the amazing care he re-ceived from his wife Gloria.
Despite the obstacles, he defied the odds and lived life to the fullest. Whether it be on his golf cart at the farm, painting the fence or making notes about the cows; riding his scooter around the block, or simply sitting in the garage, he loved noth-ing more (besides his family) than being outside.
