

She was born on August 27, 1939 in Edgerly, LA. She graduated from Vinton High School in 1957, and married her lifelong love, Winzy Vassar, Jr., in October, 1957. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Sulphur. She was very active in many church organizations, including the Ladies Altar Society and the Calcasieu Cajun Club Bingo. She has also served as a Eucharistic Minister, on the Liturgy Committee, as a Sacristan, as well as being a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas in the past. She was also involved in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. Annie took in sewing for many years, and sewed a lot of Toreador Friday Outfits throughout the years. She also sewed for her family and her church, and passed her creativity and skills on to her children. After she retired from sewing for the public, she continued sewing for her church and her family. She was also well known as a good cook, and will be remembered for her skill with lemon pie (rumor has it Winzy married her for her lemon pies), her pot roasted chicken (a family favorite to this day), her chocolate chip cookies (always a bucket of cookies in the freezer), and for her divinity. She passed her creativity and love of cooking/baking down to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She will be missed by her husband, Winzy Vassar, Jr.; daughter, Wanda Vassar Bulla of Lake Charles; daughter, Joyce Vassar of Sulphur; son, Randy Vassar of Mount Vernon, Ohio; son, Brian Vassar (Janice) of Sulphur; her grandchildren; Ashley LeBlanc, Cody Bulla, and Jamee Bulla Netherland (Russell); her great-grandchildren, Anderson Bulla, Grant Bulla, Levi Netherland, and Iris Netherland, and step great-grandchildren, Xander Blanchard and Mavis Rose Blanchard, as well as other extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Mariette Berry; sister, Honor Belle Clement; sister, Mavis Beard; and her daughter, Regina LeBlanc.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Sulphur, Louisiana on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 10:00 am, with the Very Reverend Edward Richard, M.S., V.F. officiating. Visitation will be at the Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church Hall on Thursday, March 12, 2026 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with a Rosary at 6:00 pm. Visitation will resume in the church hall on Friday, from 9:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will be at Antioch Cemetery (Big Woods).
