If you are reading this, you’ll know that we lost our Dad, Grandpa, or Great-Grandpa this week. Dad has been lost too since Mom, B. Jean Johnson, died two years ago, and it is good to know that he is with her again. They had been married since August of 1958. We were reminded of their love for each other when we looked for a good picture of Dad for this obituary and found so many of them smiling together. Really, Dad, were plaid flannel shirts all you owned? I guess as a journeyman electrician for decades at Citgo and with IBEW Local 861 where he retired, he had time to collect quite a few over the years. Before starting his career as an electrician apprentice, Bobby was in the Army during the Korean conflict.
Bobby was originally from Kinder, Louisiana, but attended McNeese after his military service was over. He settled in Sulphur, Louisiana, where Mom was from, and started his family. He took us duck hunting, coached our softball teams, watched two generations perform in the band and as Toreadors at Sulphur High football games, and in retirement became the one who hauled great grandkids to and from school. A better Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa can’t be found.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Teri Johnson [Michael McHale], Wendy Johnson, and Jamie Fults [Tony]. His much-loved grandchildren are Krystal Swain [Matt], Corey Johnson [Erin], Katie Lovett [Ray], Ben Vincent [Paige], and Cameron Thurman. He dressed in a Santa suit for his great grandchildren, Ethan, Haylee, and Lily Johnson, Cohen and Mason Swain, Brock, Connor, and Scarlett Lovett, and Aidan Abshire. His brother Billy Johnson [Judy] lives in Texas. Dad leaves numerous nieces and nephews. His loyal and beloved Boxer dog, Willie, misses him too.
A Celebration of Bobby's Life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 11 in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home led by Jody Barrilleaux, Celebrant. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please give a donation to your favorite animal charity, such as the Good Dog or Hobo Hotel for Cats in Lake Charles. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.
