He was a native of Mamou and had been a longtime resident of Sulphur. He worked for many years as a Merchant Marine and Tugboat Tankerman. Cary enjoyed fishing, going to the river, and going to the French dances. He was a member of Our Lady of Lasalette Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Wilma J. Fontenot of Sulphur; his sons, Darrell and David Fontenot, both of Sulphur; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fabuse and Adlena Fontenot; and a grandson, Derek Fontenot.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 13, in China Cemetery in China, Texas. Visitation will be held in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Sunday with a rosary service at 6 p.m. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.
