Charles proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Following honorable discharge, Chuck traveled the world as a mechanic for Lockheed before returning to Hackberry to open Wright’s service station. After closing the service station, he worked for Acadian Ambulance for 12 years.
He served as member of the Hackberry Volunteer Fire Department for 43 years. He enjoyed reading his newspaper and completing the crossword puzzle daily, growing mayhaw trees and making mayhaw jelly, and he took great pride in teaching his nieces to drive the tractor.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Madeline Wright, his parents, Bennett and Inez Wright, and his four siblings, Betty Rae Wright Desormeaux, James Burnell Wright, John Bennett Wright, and Maurina Wright LeJeune.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are brother-in-law, Numa Raymond LeJeune of Hackberry; brother-in-law, Arthur Marks, Jr of Jamaica; sister-in-law, Gillian Tremayne and her husband, Keith of Tasmania, Australia; sister-in-law, Joanie Wong and her husband, Dermot of Sulphur; brother-in-law, Stephen Marks and his wife, Charmaine of New York; sister-in-law, Heather Oakley of Sulphur; sister-in-law, Karen Jardine and her husband, Trevor of New York; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Visitation will begin at Noon until time of service at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022 in the Hackberry Community Center.
A Celebration of Life service will begin at 3:00 pm with Celebrant, Jody Barrilleaux leading service under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Charles's wishes were to be cremated and his ashes will be laid to rest in Jamaica with his Effie at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Fisher House Foundation to support military and veteran families.
