

He was a native of the Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX area and later moved to Carlyss, LA in 1994. He was an avid baseball player through Little League and High School. Damond proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a Welder by trade and provided services to the Sulphur area for many years. Damond enjoyed fishing & hunting, especially with his son. He loved watching his son, Shawn playing sports when he was growing up. Damond loved his family deeply and was very proud of his grandmothers French heritage. Damond inspired many and will be greatly missed by all that crossed his path.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Shawn Wesley McRay of Sulphur, LA & his fiance', Elizabeth Fox of Welsh, LA; his father, John Wesley McRay & wife, Joyce of Sulphur, LA; his mother, Shirley McRay of Bon Wier, TX; his brother, Brad Walen McRay of Sulphur; his nephews, Nathan & Nicholas McRay of Denton, TX; his step-brother, Chris Kayne Nelson & wife, Dawn of Sulphur, LA; his step-sisters, Laurie Martin & husband, Chip of Iowa, LA, Amanda Steiner & husband, Chad of Castle Rock, CO.
Damond is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joseph "J.D." Benoit & Mabel Thompson; his paternal grandparents, Edward Lee & Pearl Hebert McRay "Memaw & Granddaddy".
Cremation is entrusted to Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date.
