

He was a native of Lake Charles and had been a resident of Sulphur since 1972. Edward was a member of Maplewood First Baptist Church where he was involved in the men's Sunday school class. He worked in chemical sales and was the owner of Ed's Industrial Engine Service. He was a past President of the Maplewood-Hollywood Lion's Club and was active in a local model boat club. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Gwynn Schap of Sulphur; two children, Natalie Dawn Cox of Batesville, Arkansas and Twila Shawn Gabriel of Lake Charles; his sister, Georgia Lee Bonin and husband, Glen of Sulphur; and his four grandsons. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Relief Schap; and his brother, Herbert Schap, Jr.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, December 16, in Maplewood First Baptist Church. Dr. Ronnie Burke and Rev. Charley Watson will officiate. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Cody Cox, Court Gabriel, Cameron Cox, and Chase Gabriel, and Carlos Perez and Mike Bonin. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed's close friends and his Sunday school classmates. Burial will be in Goos Cemetery in Lake Charles under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday in the church.
