He was born February 23, 1928 to Monroe and Sina Perkins in Cravens, Louisiana (Vernon Parish). The youngest of eleven children, he was surrounded by 7 brothers and 3 sisters. Both his parents came from large families and he was further surrounded by lots of Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
His father passed away when he was only 8 years old and he and 2 of his brothers were responsible for helping their mother with their small farm.
His high school years were interrupted by WW II. While too young for military service, he dropped out of school and applied for civil service at nearby Fort Polk , La. With the help of an older brother already working there, he got a job in the vehicle motor pool department, working on all base vehicles and servicing the target vehicles on the firing range and helping to train service men for overseas deployment.
After the war, he attended high school in Shreveport and Pitkin. He played basketball in Pitkin, La and graduated in 1947. After graduating he came to Sulphur and worked in the oil fields and trucking industry.
While in Sulphur he met the love of his life, Winnie Richard. They were married in 1948 and were subsequently blessed by daughters, Eugenia and Evelyn.
After 3 years in the oil fields around Hobbs, NM, the family returned to Sulphur in 1953, where he was employed by Cities Service and helped his Brother grow rice in the Carlyss area. Later he was employed at PPG in the rigging department and later became an instrument technician and supervisor, eventually retiring from PPG in 1983.
After retirement, he spent his golden years fishing, hunting, guiding duck hunters, training retrieving dogs, tinkering around the acreage and raised gardens.
He has always loved the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as his savior from an early age. He was active with the Church of Christ in Sulphur and later with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Orange, TX.
