Gregory Joseph Cortez, I, died at 2:28 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2015, in a local hospital. He was a native of Jennings and was raised in Westlake all of his life where he graduated from Westlake High School. He loved to fish and cook, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his granddaughters. Survivors include his father, Claiborne Cortez of LeBleu Settlement; his children, LaTisha Vincent and husband, Robert of Sulphur and Gregory Joseph Cortez, II of Westlake; three grandchildren, Klaeborne, Korte'Lyn, and Kaydian Bertrand; four step-grandchildren, Kobrina Benoit, Jacob Vincent, Brittney Morgan and husband, Dustin, and Justin Vincent and wife, Sarah; and two step-great-grandchildren, Jennalee and Sedric. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jennifer Fontenot Cortez; and his mother, Ruth Cortez. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, February 23, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry LaFleur will officiate. Burial will be in Westlake Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is from 3-9 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service Monday in the funeral home.
