

She was a native and lifelong resident of Sulphur. She was a charter member of Houston River Baptist Church. Janell enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and also being outdoors taking care of her flowers.
Survivors include her children, Ernest Lee Barnes, Jr, Daniel David Barnes, Gail Thibodeaux and husband, David, Cynthia Bauer and husband, Roy, and Trudy Latimer, all of Sulphur; siblings, Arthur B. Parker and John H. Parker of Sulphur, and Dorsie Beech of Jena; seventeen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh A. Bates; her parents, Edward Lee Parker and Flora Mae Koonce Parker; and brothers, Edward Ernest Parker and Vernon Parker.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 6, in Houston River Baptist Church. The Rev. Lonnie Gothrup will officiate. Burial will be in Bates Cemetery in Sulphur under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday in the church.
