

He was a native of Qulin, Missouri and had been a resident of Sulphur since 1966, coming from St. Louis to work in the aircraft industry. Dave started Morse's Auction and Furniture company just weeks after arriving in Sulphur, which was later renamed Black's Furniture. He was an auctioneer for over 46 years and also enjoyed remodeling rent houses. He was a member of Houston River Baptist Church in Sulphur.
Survivors include his children, David Black and fiance', Aleisha Andrepont, and Tamra Johnston and husband, Louis, all of Carlyss; two sisters, Sandra Eddy of Fisk, Missouri and Joyce Anthony of Kennette, Missouri; two grandchildren, John Johnston and Tabitha Black; and three great-grandchildren, Kennedy Leslie, Kyndall Johnston, and Gabe Johnston. He is preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Carolyn Kay Black; siblings, Robert "Bob" Black, Doris Payne, Donald "Rip" Black, and Betty Achter; and a grandson, Scott David Johnston.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 2, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Lonnie Gothrup will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. Visitation is from 3-9 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Sunday in the funeral home.
