Joey was born October 30, 1944 in Sulphur where she remained a lifelong resident. She was a 1962 graduate of Sulphur High School and a 1966 college graduate of McNeese State College. She taught third grade for 3 1/2 years at W.T. Henning Elementary School in Sulphur. During this time on July 27, 1968, she married Ralph "Pie" Luke Sonnier. When their son, Paul, started school, she was a volunteer at Our Lady's School where she gave lots of TLC to the students and help to the parents and teachers. She enjoyed planning trips, traveling, entertaining friends on her "Reminiscing" screened porch, and thinking up excuses to not cook. Mrs. Sonnier was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church of Sulphur. For many years, she was an adorer for the OLPS Adoration Chapel and volunteered in the church office. Joey's main avocation after retirement was maintaining a weekly class news email which kept the Sulphur High School Class of 1957 in contact with each other. During the 50th class reunion, the Class of 57' made her an honorary class member which she treasured.
