Martin Douglas Myers, 60, passed away at home on Thursday, March 5th after a lengthy battle with cancer. He left this world the way he lived; quietly, humbly and with dignity. He is survived by his mother Jean Myers; sister Debra King and husband Don of Sulphur; nephews Britt King, Ryan King and wife Jami; niece Kacie Baker and husband Will; along with two great nephews, Corbin Schmeltz and Dorian Baker and a great niece Lila King.
Marty was preceded in death by his father Mervin “Sonny” Myers; sister Janelle and niece Jana.
Marty was a multi-talented artist and originator of the well-known character Gumbeaux Gator. He worked at FOX 29 since it opened in 1984, where he was their go-to guy to help co-workers with TV production. He also worked with the Ad and Press Club every year to write, produce and direct the Gridiron show.
A memorial service will be Saturday, March 14th at 2:00pm at Houston River Baptist Church in Sulphur with Rev. Lonnie Gothrup officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00pm until the beginning of the service.
Marty’s family would like to thank his “second family” at FOX 29 for their continued support and caring throughout Marty’s illness.
