

Sonny Boy was born in Sulphur on March 13, 1939. He was born the second child of Agnes and Lawrence Stutes. He had a full and busy life. He started working at Firestone at the age of 18 and worked for 53 years until his retirement. During those years, he also owned and operated a dairy and Sonny's Burger Barn. Sonny Boy loved gardening and taking care of his cattle. He also enjoyed shrimping and fishing in his spare time. Sonny was a loyal fan of the Sulphur Tors and made every game with his best friend, Sonny Peveto and in his later years with his son-in-law, Jason Peck. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Bonnie Stutes of Carlyss; his children, Rex Stutes and wife, Pam, Roderick Stutes and partner, Brian Allen, Brit Stutes and partner, Tracey Bellon, and Janna Stutes Broussard and husband, Paul, all of Carlyss, and Tabetha Stutes Peck and husband, Jason of Sulphur; his siblings, Willie Ray Stutes and wife, Jeanette, Martha Ebersole, and Betty Trahan and husband, Rudy, all of Carlyss; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 28, in St. Theresa Catholic Church. The Rev. Luke Krzanowski, MS will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 4-9 p.m. Sunday with a rosary service at 6 p.m. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Kevin Schlamp, Dr. Michael Broussard, and MD Anderson Hospital.
