Olin was born in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana on November 10, 1936 to his parents, James J. and Willie Lou Chester. He served in the Marine Corps from 1958-1964 as a Radio & Telegraph Operator. He moved his family to Vinton, Louisiana in 1969. He worked at Firestone in Orange as an operator and retired in 1999. He was a member of the American Legion and the USO. He was a faithful member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He was very active in his church and worked every Cajun Festival they had. He loved hanging out with his family, especially at holiday gatherings. He loved camping with his wife in State Parks all over the country. He enjoyed dancing with his wife at the VFW with all his friends.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 61 years, Ruth LeJeune Chester; his sisters, Virginia Carter & Margie Kinsley; his children, Rene Broussard (Lloyd) of Vinton, Diana Dietz (Raymond) of Dequincy, Gary Chester (Darilyn) of Carlyss & Keith Chester (Matilda) of Vinton; his grandchildren, Shane & Chad Broussard, Lacie Petitto, Nicholas, Patrick & Zachary Dietz, Hilliary, Allen & Macy Chester, Kent,
Christopher, Scott & Makayla Chester; and his 9 great grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; brothers, JW Chester, Lavern Chester & Virgil Chester; and his grandson Jacob Louis Dietz.
Visitation will be from 4-9 PM, Wednesday, January 20, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home with a Rosary being recited at 6 PM. Visitation will resume Thursday, January 21 from 8:30 AM until 10:15 AM in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 21 at 11 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Carlos Garcia officiating.
