Richard "Dick" Sprigg

Dick was a native of Beaumont, Texas and had been a resident of Sulphur since 1968. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He served as a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America, received the Silver Beaver Award, and was a recipient and instructor in Wood Badge. Mr. Sprigg was a member of Maplewood-Hollywood Lions Club for many years. He began his career in the funeral business by driving an ambulance for Broussard's Mortuary in Beaumont, Texas and later graduated from Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in Houston, Texas with an Associate Degree in Mortuary Science. He worked for 36 years at Sulphur Funeral Homes before retiring from Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Homes.

Survivors include his children, Mary Lanier and husband, Preston of Myakka City, Florida, Rick Sprigg and wife, Wende of Carlyss, Helen Sprigg Saenz and husband, Alfonso of Houston, Texas, and Christa O'Neal and husband, Kevin of Carlyss; son-in-law, Pat Krepper of Treasure Island, Florida; sister, Ruby Stevenson of Euless, Texas; eleven grandchildren; and two great-granchildren with one on the way. He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Marlyss Ann Sprigg; a daughter, Susan Krepper; his adoptive father, Clarence Sprigg; his parents, Anna and William Adams; one adoptive sister; six sisters; and four brothers.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 28, in Trinity Lutheran Church in Sulphur. The Rev. Shane McCoy will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home, and from 11 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday in the church.
