He was a native and lifelong resident of Sulphur and was a graduate of Sulphur High School where he was active in Rodeo and Football. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of American Legion Post 179. He worked as a pipefitter for Firestone Polymers and retired after over 30 years of service. In Bob's earlier years, he enjoyed shrimping, fishing, and hunting. He also enjoyed the many gatherings at the family camp at Holly Beach until it was destroyed in Hurricane Rita. Bob absolutely loved music and had met many famous musicians over the years.
Survivors include his daughters, Stephanie Baker Nichols of Sulphur and Yvette Baker and husband, Kevin Clark of La Porte, Texas; his grandchildren, Christopher Joseph Meaux and wife, Erika, and Leslie Cropley and husband, Chris; great-grandchildren, Madison, Mason, Cade, and Dylan; and a great-great-grandson, Lucas. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Mae Van Slyke Baker; his parents, Herbert Mims Baker and Lela Babineaux Baker; and his siblings, James Patrick "Jimmy" Baker and "Little Mary" Baker.
A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home led by Hixson's Celebrant, Jody Tyler. Burial will follow in Royer Cemetery in Sulphur. Pallbearers will be Christopher Meaux, Chris Cropley, Cade Cropley, Dylan Cropley, Gilbert Deshotel, and Bo Van Slyke.
