He was born in Crowley and had been a resident of Sulphur for the last 35 years, moving from Iowa. Ted was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army special forces, was a Green Beret, and had served two tours in Vietnam. He was a member of American Legion Post #179 in Sulphur and VFW Post #9854 in Vinton. He taught hunter safety courses with the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries for many years. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and camping. In his earlier years, he taught art lessons to local youth and had also enjoyed doing tattoos for family and friends (and also for himself), and loved drinking coffee with family and friends.
Survivors include his children, Amy Darbonne and husband, Thomas of Lake Charles, Charles Mier and wife, Ashley of Sulphur, and Ted Mier, IV of Welsh; his siblings, Beverly Thornton, Wilbert Mier, Jr., Aledia Frazier, Donald Mier, Robert Mier, and Roy Lee Aucoin; sixteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Susan Gail Mier; his son, Shannon Todd Mier; his parents, Wilbert and Aledia Mier; his siblings, Woodford John Mier, Elray John Mier, Richard Eloi Mier, and Earline Mier; and his granddaughter, Ashley Darbonne.
His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 24 in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Deacon Patrick LaPoint will officiate. Burial will be in Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday in the funeral home. A Rosary Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. just before the funeral service.
