Thomas was a native of Lake Charles and attended McNeese State University. He had been a longtime resident of Carlyss before moving to Westlake twelve years ago. He dedicated much of his career to Citgo Petroleum Corporation, where he worked in the Operations Group as a Shift Foreman until retiring in 1999. He found joy in collecting coins, spending time at their camp at Toledo Bend, traveling the country with grandchildren after retirement, and cherished the time he spent with family and friends. Thomas was a faithful member of Maplewood First Baptist Church in Sulphur. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose kindness and faith left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Edith Claire Haggart Nevils; his children, Thomas Michael “Mike” Nevils, Jr. and Tina Michelle Nevils Fluty and husband, Ray, all of Westlake; his brothers, Albert Nevils of Sulphur and William Nevils of Forest Hill; his grandchildren, John Michael Nevils, Cameron Nevils, Caylee Nevils, Daniel Fluty, Patrick Fluty, Nicholas Fluty; and great-grandchildren, Abby Nevils, Gunner Nevils, Lincoln Nevils, Liam Nevils, Owen Nevils, Malakai Fluty, Addilynne Fluty, and Ezra Fluty. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Augusta Nevils.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Blocker will officiate. Burial will be in Indian Village Cemetery in Kinder. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Adam Haggart, Daniel Fluty, Patrick Fluty, Nicholas Fluty, Michael Nevils and Cameron Nevils.
