

She lived in Nederland, Texas as a child and resided in Sulphur her adult life. Vera loved to cook for her family, volunteer at the church, and play cards with her grandchildren and friends. Vera was a member of the Southwest Louisiana Day Lily Club and loved to garden in her beautiful yard.
Survivors include four daughters, Lynelle Vice of Sulphur, Janet Doughty and husband, Larry of Rogers, Arkansas, Darla Mayes of Beaumont, Texas, and Trudi Miller and husband, Wayne of Santa Fe, New Mexico; one sister, Dorothy Earl of Jennings; nine grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her spouses, Noah Joseph Portie and Jewel A. Franklin; her son-in-law, Richard P. Vice; and two brothers, James "Buster" Virgilio and Adam "Doc" Virgilio.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Sulphur. The Rev. James Benbrook will officiate. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
