“BERNIE”

Bernie was born November 15, 1935, and left us on October 5, 2013. Our beloved husband, father and grandfather is survived by Joy, his wife of 56 years, his daughter, Shannon Brattkus, son-in-law, Jim Brattkus, granddaughters, Sarah Brattkus and Megan Brattkus. He was preceded in death by his son, Shawn. Bernie and Joy were high school sweethearts. His athletic skills at Orting High School won him a four year football scholarship to Whitworth University where he received his teaching degree. He was a devoted teacher and coach in the Sumner High School and Sumner Junior High School, coaching football, basketball, and baseball and retiring after thirty years. He is remembered for his love of life and friends, sense of humor and his ardent devotion to his family. A Memorial Service will be held at Trophy Lake Golf Club, 3900 SW Lake Flora Road in Port Orchard, WA on Sunday, October 20th at 3:30 PM. Memorial donations may be made to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, Tacoma, WA
