Georgia was born on August 13, 1926 in Beloit, Kansas to George and Myrtle Bunch, the last of five children. She passed away on January 31st, 2015. She moved to Puyallup Washington with her family in 1942 and she resided there for the rest of her life. She had a daughter, Jeanette from her first marriage to Lyle Hedden. In 1960 she married David Matlock and they were married 54 years, having two children, Michael and Cheryl Anne. Family was everything to Georgia and they hosted many family gatherings at their home in Puyallup and their lake cabin. She loved to be surrounded by her family, making apple cider and ice cream and strawberry shortcake. She and David made an annual tradition of taking their whole family on summer trips to the ocean. Georgia loved music and dancing. She played the violin as a child and learned bass guitar as an adult so she could play music with her children. As a young woman she loved flying in small planes with her father-law in Belleville Kansas. She enjoyed ceramics, basket weaving, sewing and knitting. Everything she sewed or knitted was given to her family. She was the bookkeeper and field supervisor on the family farm, Matlock’s Fruit Farms, and Farwest Nurseries. She was an important part of the farm operation that provided summer employment to thousands of young people picking strawberries and raspberries. After retirement Georgia and David travelled the world, taking cruises and trips to places including Greece, Mexico, France, Istanbul, Brazil, Hawaii, Morocco, Algeria, and Australia. She and David travelled over 40,000 sea miles and rounded Cape Horn. She is survived by her husband David, her children Jeanette Carman (Dick), Michael Matlock (Nancy), Cheryl Anne Fox (David); six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Kathy for the special care she provided to Georgia for the last three years. A celebration of life will be on March 12th at 3:30 at the Washington State Fair, Fair Farm building, at the Green Gate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Parkison Foundation.
