

Alva Charles Hunt, known as “Al” to all who were privileged to know him, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 29th, 2015 at the age of 88. He was born in Clovis, New Mexico to Dee and Agnes Hunt on July 7, 1927.He was the eldest of 3 boys. Al spent his childhood years in Oklahoma. When he was 12 years old his family moved to California where he finished his schooling. Upon completing High School he joined the marines, serving in the south pacific aboard the aircraft carrier USS Antietam. Following his discharge, he was employed by Safeway Stores. He became their youngest store manager at the age of 22.
In 1950 he married Janelle Grant; they had 4 children and spent 65 wonderful years together. In 1956 Al’s career path changed to aerospace when he was employed by the Garrett Corporation (now known as Honeywell).He remained with the company for 30 years, making significant contributions of skills and knowledge. He held many important titles during those years and when he retired in 1986 he held the position of Corporate Director.
He was a devout Christian, and a member of the West Olive Church of Christ for the last 18 years serving as a deacon and treasurer. He established and directed a visitation program to see to the needs of those hospitalized. He created his own card ministry, designing anniversary cards for everyone and sending them from the church.
Al enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, boating, antique cars and most of all, his family. He was a devoted, loving husband, dad, granddad, and Papa. He believed that every family should have a boat. He spent many, many hours teaching people of all ages, from youngsters to adults, how to water ski, fish, hunt and golf. He was a member of the Union Hills Country Club for 18 years, where he enjoyed many days of golf and fellowship with good friends.
He leaves a family who individually continue to carry a bit of him through the legacy he has left behind. From his own children, down to his youngest great-grandchild, Al’s legacy will continue to impact generations to come.
