Ann G. McGill (Valentine) died peacefully on January 28, 2018 in Sun City, Arizona at the age of 90 years old. Ann was born on August 14, 1927 in Rollingstone, Minnesota to Eugene and Elizabeth Valentine. She graduated from Winona Senior High School in May of 1945. She married Bill, her high school sweetheart, on November 24, 1949. After the wedding, Bill and Ann moved to Clarksville, Tennessee, as Bill was in the Army Airborne at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. They lived in many different places over Bill’s 28 year career in the Army, including nine years in Germany. They eventually settled in Palatine, Illinois when Bill retired from the Army and they started McGill Management. In 1988, they retired and made Peoria, Arizona their permanent home.
The couple welcomed their daughter, Linda Ann on March 31, 1953. Ann will be remembered by Linda as a kind and gentle mother who always encouraged her to pursue her goals and dreams, but most of all to never give up. Ann was not only a mom but a friend and mentor.
Ann had a passion for golfing, playing cards, making greeting cards, shopping, sharing stories about her family and spending time with them and her many friends. Ann was loved by all who knew her and she welcomed everyone into her home. She enjoyed spending time with her family. When Linda married George, Ann finally got the son she always wanted. Their love, respect and bond will live on forever. Being able to watch her granddaughter, Jennifer, become an amazing woman and mom meant the world to her. The love they shared was very special to Ann. Her Great-Grandson Eric was the highlight of her life, watching him grow to be an amazing young man was her greatest joy.
Ann is survived by her daughter; Linda Wolf (George) of Sun City, Arizona; granddaughter, Jennifer Thomasson of Surprise, Arizona and great-grandson, Eric Thomasson of Surprise, Arizona. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, William McGill, who passed away on March 14, 2000; her parents, Elizabeth and Eugene; and her six brothers and sisters. Ann treasured her time with her many nieces and nephews and was grateful for their continued visits, letters, phone calls and love. She especially loved receiving family photos from them.
A memorial mass is scheduled for Wednesday, February 7, 11:30AM at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 9728 West Palmaras, Sun City, Arizona. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ann’s life.
