Another beloved soul has been set free. Arlette personified class, warmth and generosity, with an authentic ability to see the special light in all who surrounded her. She peacefully passed away Saturday, September 20, 2025. Arlette’s north star was her beloved husband Bob, with whom she shared 61 years of loving devotion. Together they were two peas in a pod, sprouting four adored daughters, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren — the bright satellites of their family constellation. Arlette is predeceased by her husband Bob and survived by daughters Karen Sher (Barrie), Dr. Diane Donley (Mark), Kim Schultz (Neal) and Delsee Altman (Jeff).
Born in Strasbourg, France, Arlette and her family fled Nazi occupation, making their way to Louisville, Kentucky, where she grew up resilient, social and adored. A sharp and motivated student, Arlette skipped two grades, spoke five languages and graduated from Stephen’s College before marrying Bob. She mastered the mobility of Navy life, spanning 12 stations that carried the family across the U.S. and overseas. As the quintessential military wife (while raising four kids under the age 6 in the Philippines) she was awarded the International Toastmaster’s award for speech of the year. After leaving the Navy, the family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona where Arlette began her real estate career. Upon full retirement, they moved to Surprise, Arizona and ultimately to Royal Oaks Retirement Community in Sun City, Arizona.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Arlette's close friends, family and staff of Royal Oaks on October 10, 2025.
