Benjamin was born on January 28, 1944 to Wilma and Duke Montgomery in Charlotte, North Carolina. After Benjamin graduated from St. Emma Military Academy in Virginia he enlisted in the Air Force and then attended Virginia Commonwealth University.
While in college Ben was very active in the civil rights movement and a member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) Before becoming a vice president in commercial banking he owned an art store in Richmond, Virginia and he worked in mental health.
After retirement Benjamin and Gail moved to Arizona where he volunteered with AARP as a tax advisor, with the Red Cross in various capacities and with FEMA. In addition he established a travel agency.
His personal interests included working on his family ancestry, traveling the world including memorable visits to China, Tahiti, throughout Europe, and North and South America. He was happiest when he was fishing or cooking. He loved food!
Benjamin leaves to cherish his life, his loving wife Gail, sisters Odell Montgomery Cooper, Marcia Clinkscales; brother Montez Jons; sons Duke Montgomery (Darci) and Kyle Montgomery, cousins, nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-children and countless friends and others Ben touched throughout his life.
Our hearts are broken by our loss.
We will miss him more than words can say.
