Dorothy Mills

Dorothy Mills, born in 1919, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 21, 2021. She was a dearly beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She grew up in Chicago, Illinois where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Gerrit DeYoung.

Several years later they relocated to Phoenix, AZ when her husband Gerrit met an untimely death. Later Dorothy met and married David Mills who preceded her in death in 2000.

Dorothy was very involved in her local community: a socialite, a long-time emergency department volunteer at Good Sam and St. Joseph’s Hospitals. For several years she was the presiding President and charter member of the Chicago Club and voted by her peers as a finalist for the Sun City All Star Caregiver Award.

She was also a recipient of the Adult Care Award and Volunteer of the Year award. She was a twenty+ year resident of the Sun Valley Lodge where she was President of the Volunteer Auxiliary Board and volunteered her time, for over ten years, to run the SVL Thrift store. She was kind and generous, and loved tremendously by her family. She will be deeply missed by all.
