January 23, 1939 to August 7, 2012
Passed away at the young age of 73 after a battle with a very aggressive cancer.
He and his wife Marge moved to Sun City, Arizona from Wisconsin after retiring in 2004.
Doug was born in Lacrosse, Wisconsin on January 23, 1939 to Hilda and Milan Tostrud. He was the oldest of their three children. He graduated from Lacrosse High School in 1956. He spent over 40 years in the trucking industry.
Doug was a diehard Green Bay Packer fan and lived his life according to Vince Lombardi’s famous words; “Only three things should matter to you, your religion, your family and the Green Bay Packers, in that order.” He was an avid golfer but was not able to devote enough time to the sport until he moved to Arizona. Once he moved to Arizona he played several rounds a week and was always ready to play with family and friends (provided the Packers were not playing). Doug’s proudest achievement and one his children are very grateful for was putting all five of his children through college.
Doug was a dedicated family man to his wife of over 52 years, his five children and their families. He is survived by his wife Marge, his children Doug (Crissy), Mark (Sonka), Jana (Scott) Emerson, Michael and Wendi (Bill) Kominek. He loved spending time with his five granddaughters; Lauren, Madison, Bethany, Kya, Kelsey and his only grandson Morgan. He is also survived by his mother Hilda Tostrud, his sister Beverly (Ron) Gavin, his brother Jim (Debbie), Sonia Riecan and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family is united in our love for Doug/Dad, and his love for each of us. While we are saddened by his passing, we were each blessed by his selfless commitment to our lives. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Arizona Foundation (www.ahhospicefoundation.org) or Cancer Research Institute (www.cancerresearch.org).
