Damgen, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Edward G. Jr. 91, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2011. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Ed was preceded in death by parents Edward G. and Margaret Damgen, Sr. He is survived by his wife Anne of 69 years, daughter Darlene (Robert Clark), son Edward III (Cheryl) and grand-daughter Julie, his brothers Arthur (Jeanne-deceased) and Eugene (Mary), and many nieces and nephews.
Ed was born in Orange, NJ on April 17, 1920. He served in WWII (Africa, France & Germany), attended Officers Candidate School (1942), and continued his Army career with assignments in Maryland, Germany, Georgia, Taiwan, California, Turkey, Oregon and retired from the U.S. Army as a Lt. Col. in California where he spent many years in Real Estate. In 1977, he and Anne purchased a new motor home as Ed said, “It’s now time to see Our Country” and they moved to Sun City, Arizona where they made many friends with their same interests, and enjoyed 12 years of motor-homing. Arkansas was the only State they never traveled to, and that was only due to health issues which ended their motor-homing days.
Ed and Anne were members of Union Hills Country Club, as well as St. Elizabeth Seton’s Catholic Church in Sun City.
Visitation will take place at Sunland Mortuary (15826 Del Webb Blvd. Sun City, AZ) on Wednesday, September 14th from 3:30-6pm, with the Rosary at 5pm. A Funeral Mass and celebration of Ed’s wonderful life will take place at 10am on September 15th at St. Elizabeth Seton’s Catholic Church (9728 West Palmeras Dr., Sun City, AZ). Entombment with full Military Honors will take place at 11:30am at Sunland Memorial Park, with a repast immediately following in the Sunland Room at Sunland Mortuary.
Ed’s love, kindness, generosity and passion for life will live on in his family and friends forever. The family would like to request Memorial contributions be made to Prime Care Hospice (4225 W. Glendale Ave. Ste #A200 Phoenix, AZ 85051) who so lovingly and caringly made Ed’s final days peaceful.
Sunland Memorial Park and Mortuary was entrusted with Lt. Colonel Damgen’s care. Please leave online condolence messages for his family at www.sunlandmemorial.com.
