Eva Winterkorn

Eva passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 21, 2015 in Sun City West, Arizona at age 92. She is predeceased by her husband of 73 years, Frank Winterkorn, Sr. She leaves behind her children, Frank Jr. (Trude) and Ingrid Postma (John). She was a devoted grandmother to Yvette (Todd), Tanja and Jeffrey and loving great-grandmother to Katrina, Karsten, Petra, Garrett, Sofia and Mia. Eva was born in Budakeszi, Hungary and survived the Russian occupation of her beloved homeland. She was deported to Germany with her young son, Feri (Frank, Jr.) and waited for her husband to return from Russia, where he was a prisoner of war. They reunited, lived in Germany for a number of years and then immigrated to Chicago in 1959. Hardworking and determined, they built a successful life for themselves and their children. Eva loved spending time at their Lake Eau Claire cottage and was most happy amongst the woods and looking after the bluff. She always looked forward to the weekends when her children and grandchildren came to visit and she could cook and bake all their favorite things.

Eva was an artist and painted many lovely works of art that adorn her home and the homes of her family. She was a bookworm and loved nothing more than to sit quietly and read all her wonderful novels. Sadly, as she got older her eyesight failed her and she could no longer enjoy those passions. She did enjoy her retirement in Sun City with Frank and their many friends and loved hosting dinner parties and having coffee klatsches, cooking and baking endlessly. The garden was her favorite place where she could sit, enjoy her morning coffee, then water the flowers and putter among the orange trees.

Eva spent her last months at Parkwood Assisted Living, being looked after and cared for by the wonderful staff. She enjoyed taking small walks and sitting by the fountain in the sunshine. Suddenly one morning her breathing became heavy and her heart started giving up on her. One of her last wishes was to get up and make a cup of coffee.

Memorial services and a celebration of her life will be held for friends and family at Sunland Memorial Park on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in Sun City, Arizona, followed by a luncheon.
