Gilbert Louis Bartell, 96, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2014. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 21 at Sunland Mortuary – Lakeside Chapel, 15826 Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ 85351. Private inurnment will be at Sunland Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
Gilbert was born on October 20, 1918 in Green Lake, Wisconsin to Joseph and Cora Bartell. He married Ruby O. (Morlan) Bartell on May 9, 1944. Gilbert was a World War II Veteran and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was active in the Arizona Pearl Harbor Survivor Association and was past president.
He resided in Sunnyvale, California many years. Gilbert retired from the US Postal Service as a station superintendent. Arizona has been his home for the past 30 years, moving to Scottsdale and then, for the past 2 years, living at the Heritage Palmeras in Sun City.
Gilbert will be missed by his loving wife of 70 years, Ruby; his daughter and son-in-law, Renee and James McHardy; and grandson Ryan James McHardy. He is preceded in death by his four siblings, Raymond, Marge, Carol and Ginny.
Arrangements are being handled by Sunland Memorial Park Mortuary in Sun City, AZ.
