Grant Sidney Nielsen of Glendale, AZ passed away unexpectedly, due to an unfortunate accident. It is his family's belief that although his time with them was cut short, his progression continues and that he now resides in a beautiful place, with others that have passed before him, including his parents and a brother, among other dear loved ones.
Born June 18, 1939 in Pleasant Grove, Utah to George Lim and Louise Christiansen Nielsen, Grant married his sweetheart Joyce Hunter in the Salt Lake Temple, on September 4, 1957. They made Glendale, Arizona their home in 1973, where Grant owned Sun West Mechanical Inc. before retiring in 2006.
While his family and friends acknowledge his loss, it is overshadowed by the peace they feel from confidence that he was ready to answer to God for the good life he led. His untiring patience and love for others were the hallmarks of his life. He was selfless in service, giving anonymously and always deflecting the credit for his good works. Grant was a loving and attentive husband. His seemingly infinite capacity to love was demonstrated while he served as a Bishop of an LDS young singles ward, where he excelled at supporting those with special needs. He taught the gospel of Jesus Christ in an outreach to those in prison, helping to restructure once shattered lives. When released from that calling, he happily served for five years as an ordinance worker in the Mesa LDS temple, and felt fortunate to serve a week in the newly dedicated Phoenix temple before his passing.
His greatest love was for his family. He enjoyed the outdoors, and used that setting to teach his family lifes lessons by telling the stories of their ancestry. He is survived by Joyce, his wife and the love of his life; two daughters Robyn (Steve) Bluth and Susan (Troy) Caskey; and three sons Douglas (Jeanette), Alan (Cenia) and Greg (Dorothy). The legacy of his life and love continue with 26 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren.
The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center for the relentless and wonderful, around-the-clock care they showed to Grant during his time with them. Your compassion, care, and concern will not be forgotten.
A viewing will be held at 6:30-9:00pm on Thursday December 11, 2014, and again at 8:30am on Friday December 12 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 5104 W.
