When he worked in Bell Labs, we called him Mike. If I called him Helmut I could expect any sort of silly thing. He was a special friend then and I still smile when I think of him. This world is slightly sadder with his loss.

I will miss Helmut's endless humor and and friendship at worlk and with my family. He helped me renovate my kitchen before his brother Otto did cabinet installation. His direction and scare to my wife was when we knocked out a wall not originally plan on as she sat in ajoining room.if you knew Helmut you know how he was a smile in everyones heart. God bless a wonderful becon of light heartedness to all around him.    Chuck Fister

We will forever remember Pater for his silly sense of "German", joke-filled  humor; for his generous spirit (care packages, bags of candy, multiple containers of ice cream, dinners at our favorite restaurants, personalized poems, timely cards, personally selected gifts, a little extra cash, short or long sight-seeing trips, etc., etc.) and for his many welcomed phone calls that left us all laughing long after the phone call had ended!

As a young girl, he would "rescue" me from Saturday morning cleaning to be treated with a short sight-seeing trip somewhere and then ALWAYS a bite to eat/treat! In my college years, he supported my dream of attaining a college degree with much pride and frequent gifts...he would send the most amazing care packages that contained a little cash to help with art supply costs and so many snacks and candies, that I needed to share them with my entire wing of girl roommates. From that point on, I was officially dubbed the nickname, "Kutztie" for attending Kutztown Univ.  When Kurt and I were married, Pater stood in for my father, his brother, who had passed away and walked me down the aisle singing, "When Fools Rush In", yet he was so pleased that I was entering into what he considered a very good family, having worked with my father-in-law at AT&T for many years. He enjoyed spoiling my children, as well as those of my siblings. One time, when Pater came home from Arizona for a visit, we knew he had arrived when we pulled into our driveway marveling at the sight of bags of candy lining each garage door entry and more bags hanging from the handles on the 2 garage doors...we sat in laughter and exclaimed, "Pater's home!" 

We ALL have so many special memories of Pater that we will hold dear in our hearts! My most cherished is the time I spent in Arizona, with the intention of helping Matt and Rosie take care of him and his household chores after heart surgery, only to be treated like the little princess he always had done in the past. As he clutched his little heart pillow and climbed into the back seat of his vehicle "to rest", he barked instructions for my brother or sister to take me over 600 miles around Arizona. Simply breathtaking!

Dear Helmut .It was sure hard for me to say goodby to you , as you made your way back to your place in arz. To me you were the help for my family, my Children.They so loved you as you became the supstitute Father figure. I thank you for that. May God grand you Peace. We all will miss you.I only wiched that we could have more time with you.You were the help that your brother needed, as we started our new life in the USA.You helped build the haus that I'm still in ,and the Children can still call it there Home. Every time Pater would call he would say, you don't call me anymore! Now you won't call me anymore. You would also say, are you still married to that bum(Ron) and I would say only on weekends.  We miss you deeply and we will miss the surprise packages you sent every now and then. What a trip you were.  I'm so glad you came to see us in Myrtle Beach last year. If only we knew that you were is such bad health, you didn't let on to anyone.  You are constantly in my thoughts,and you are sitting in my dining room as I write. At least I can still say good morning to you. May God have a high place in heaven for you and I hope to see you there when my time comes.  We will always love you. It was hard watching you,Pater, and your primary Dr. visit for the last time. To see a doctor hold back his tears dispite his daily acceptance of lifes ending in this community of seniors. You were a special breed of human angles.
Why is it everyone I meet here in the shoppes who knew you, my uncle, were suprised by the grave news and will all miss the enchanting character of Helmut? Because you touched so many lives, even if it was only to put a smile on someone elses face.I will miss your calls when you never cessed to put a smile on my face. My daily jokester when I needed it.
My earliest memories of you always consist of  you gently tickling us kids up and down the length of our arms. But the deepest most enduring and endearing memory for me is/was when Mona and I were on either side of you having to hold your pinky finger and taking us for a walk.
We have dubbed you with many names over the years. Unk, elephant, budda
[rubbing your belly for luck] Meine Superior.  and when you tripped on a curb during one of our adventures, down you went, rolled, and got up calling yourself a tumbleweed, I dubbed you Sir P. Stumbleweed. I also learned not to pull your finger!
I loved watching you in action wowing the waitresses and people in general wherever we went. Your quick wit usually won you many smiles and hugs.

wow-what a neat person he was to both priscilla(perk)and myself, there were,countless days when one of us might be down, and by the time he left-we were both laughing, not just us -but others in the neighborhood! his humor was really one of a kind, I mean that in a wonderful sense of the word!" Helmootie" (my pet name for  him)was not only fun to be around, he was one of the most generous persons I have ever met! We miss him dearly,when I look across my back yard I can still see hlm walking with his hands be hind in the gentle manner of  a man he was!!

I was so sadden to read about the passing of Helmut.  I would of love to had gone to his wake.  I want to send my condolences to Rosemary and his family.  He used to come in to the restaurants where I worked, Lovin Touch and Brenda's Kitchen.  He was so much fun to have around.  Everyone at Brenda's Kitchen wanted to say how much they will miss him too.

My big monkey!!! To him we were all his little monkeys. It saddens me to know that i will never again recieve his special little notes with moneys drawn on it. In my heart and my children we remain monkeys!!! I will miss my pater and his crazy jokes. Thank you pater for being there for me and being that special gentleman in my life. I know you are in a great place where the jokes can go on forever. I know you will be looking over all of us and it warms my heart.

We will miss you terribly but know that you are in a better place without pain!  Some funny memories are Pater calling our home and asking "Is my sweetie there?" or "Are you still with that Knucklehead?"   Other times he would call when the Bengals or Flyers lost and then shout...Go Bengals..Go Flyers.   Sometimes mixing the two up on purpose just to be a "Silly Old German" Other funny memories include all of his wonderful little notes.  These notes usually came with an odd assortment of pens, pictures, sayings, calendars and whatever else he could find to send us.  We also have wonderful memories of his visits here to PA. We will certainly miss you but know that you will still be as much as a prankster up there as you were here!! Give it to them good Pater!!

Pater,I will miss you and your jokes and the funny phone calls every monday night and asking for Matt knowing full well he wasnt here, then saying did I wake you .LOLOL Its Monday night and vI find myself waiting for his call and I miss him terribly already I love and miss you My Superior. My uncle and godfather Helmut was an unique and exceptional person. We called him PAT(a short form of Pater). He was fit out with an amazing kind of goodness, heartiness, broadmindedness and kindness, always ready to help and to make joy to everyone. And he was a witty fellow and a great joker, too at every time, short: an entertainer of his own special way - simple unbelievable. He was the One, who showed me "America the Beautiful", an unforgotten experience in my life. I never will forget him, but I'll miss him so much. PAT, Thanks for everything and Rest in Peace, Your nephew Günter.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Hoffmann family. he couldn't  remember my name but he always made me laugh.

Helmut Hoffmann was one-of-a-kind with a perpetual twinkle in his eye and a joke at the ready for whomever was within earshot.  Even though we were not related by blood, I always felt he was truly "one of my family".  Helmut will be missed by his nieces and nephews who he loved dearly and who loved him deeply in return.  Heaven is lucky to have him and will now benefit from his goodness.

I just found out that 1 of the funnest men that I got to meet has passed on. I was married to a nephew of his and he always kidded around saying I was the better half. I remember the back rubs also. I'm blessed to know such a great guy. You are certainly in a better place. Remember to say hi to my mom and dad when you see them. Denise Hart West Reading Pennsylvania

It doesn't really sadden me too much to know Pater (stupid English computer still doesn't recognize to place umlaut on certain German words.) has passed on until  I see his picture. Know this he is in a much better place (no more suffering.)  if  for some odd reason Heaven was lacking humor ,wait till they get a load of this guy. I could say so many things about Pater"s humor but who couldn"t. Anyone who didn't get a laugh out of this guy maybe didn't have sense of humor. I remember my Dad would  take me and Brian to his apt. after visiting Nan and Pop and he would always treat Brian and very well. I'll never forget his back rubs. But what always stands out to me was his generosity. Ever since Pater sent me a Steelers shirt it has been my go to shirt. Anyway I am glad I had the chance to hang with Pater in Oct. putting together the t.v. stand he bought my mom and Ron,followed by a nice lunch with me and Deb. Last but not least whenever I think of gehoctis that's my best stab at it I can't not think of Pater. Ironically Nan made this this year. See you on the other side Hans -Pater.   David Golembiewski.
