

He was born July 26, 1919 in Bethany, Illinois, son of Marvin and Helen (Hogg) Hudson.
Survivors include his nephews William Gordon, Arizona and Tom Gordon and Jim Gordon of Illinois. He is also survived by special friends Jane Harker-Gersten of California and Kay Scherting of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, June Ekiss and Hester Gordon,----- nephews Hudson and Paul Ekiss, and neice Karla Gordon Dowdell.
Jim graduated from the Harvard University McLean Hospital of nursing specializing in psychiatric care. He also received a BS from University of Pennsylvania and an MA from New York University. He retired in 1979 as Deputy Executive Director of the American Nurses Association.
Jim served in the US Navy during WWII training members of the Navy’s medical corp.
After retirement, Jim volunteered over 33,000 hours at Sun Health’s Boswell and Del Webb Hospitals. His responsibilities included coordinator of volunteer policies and procedures. In 2006 he received the Business Journal Award for his volunteer work. He also received a life-time achievement award from President Bush’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Grandview Assisted Living for their loving care and devotion to our uncle during his final months.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will be no memorial services. Sunland Memorial Park is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made in his honor to the Sun Health Foundation, Surprise, AZ.
