Janet Louise Gurriell was born Janet Anson to her parents Alice and Alvin Anson in Paterson, New Jersey on January 9th 1925. She passed away peacefully in her residence in San Diego, California on January 16th 2017 at the age of 92.
Janet grew up in Paterson and graduated from Eastside High School. It was there she met her future husband John Gurriell. World War II was raging at the time and John went off to defend his country. When he returned from the pacific theater John married his high School sweetheart, Janet.
John and Janet moved to Wyckoff, New Jersey in 1955 and raised their two sons, Steve and Glenn. Janet led a typical life of that time raising her children and taking care of the household and her husband. After 33 years John retired from Bell Telephone and he and Janet moved to Florida and then to Arizona. John passed away in 2009 and Janet relocated to San Diego to be close to family.
Janet was feisty, had a sweet tooth, loved her grandchildren and lived a full, happy life. She is survived by her two sons, Steve of Naples Florida and Glenn of San Diego California, their wives Carol and Susan respectively and a total of five grandchildren, Ashley, Lindsey, Brian, Rachel and Hayley.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City, AZ on Thursday morning January 26th. The Sunland phone number is (623) 933-0161.
