John Douglas McKenzie

John Douglas McKenzie was born October 30, 1944 in Brackpan, South Africa, the only child of Donald and Margaret McKenzie. John went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on May 27, 2024 after reaching the age of 79 and a half years. John passed peacefully, surrounded and comforted by his family at home while in hospice care.

John spent his childhood in Salisbury, Rhodesia and enjoyed summer vacations in Durban, South Africa, where he loved spending time on the sunny beaches and warm ocean waters. John attended high school at St. George’s in Salisbury where he excelled in running cross-country. At age 20, John came to the United States to attend the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, Illinois. This is where he met his beloved wife Carol, as she attended nursing school at West Suburban hospital nearby.

John and Carol married on August 25, 1968. John practiced chiropractic in Ohio for two years before heading west to warmer weather in Phoenix, AZ. He and Carol settled in Glendale, AZ where they raised their family and where John was a beloved chiropractor for over 45 years.

John enjoyed all things natural health, fitness, gardening, playing tennis, ping pong, walking, running and watching professional sports during his lifetime. John had a deep love for all animals, and especially for his dogs. John was a strong Christian and had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. John was a member of Calvary Northwest campus, where he volunteered as a greeter for 11 years. John was happiest when spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s many sporting events; tennis, football, basketball, baseball, soccer and track and field.

John was preceded by his father, Donald McKenzie and mother, Margaret Mary Hayes. John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol McKenzie of Anthem, AZ, and his three children; Mark McKenzie and his wife Kathleen of Anthem, AZ, Andrea McKenzie of Anthem, AZ, Douglas McKenzie of Phoenix, AZ and his three grandchildren; Kylie McKenzie, Rowan McKenzie and Kate McKenzie of Anthem, AZ.

The family will be hosting services on July 31, 2024 at Sunland Funeral Home in Sun City, Arizona.
