
John (Jack) Otto passed away on August 23, 2011 following a short illness in Sun City, AZ. He is survived by his wife Carolyn and a son, Jon of Buckeye, AZ, daughters, Melissa (Molly) Beeli of Manhatten Beach, CA and Kelly Otto of Seattle, WA. He also has 8 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild, Sophia, arriving in November 2010. Jack also has a dear sister Shirley Whitman.
John was born December 10, 1934 and raised in Appleton Wisconsin. He attended Oshkosh State University and the University of Wisconsin. He taught high school in Hurley and Freedom, WI and was a guidance counselor in Mishicot, WI. before moving to California in 1965. He became California State University, Chico's first Financial Aid Director and also served in several other capacities there in the Student Affairs Department. He was deeply involved in the establishment of grants and scholarships, including Upward Bound and Educational Opportunity Programs. He also coached Little League baseball for many years while living in Chico.
He retired in 1993 and moved to Sun City, AZ where he continued to enjoy playing baseball and golf. He derived great joy in helping others and continued to do this throughout his retirement, singing and playing music in retirement facilities, day care centers and nursing care centers. Jack was everybody's friend and he had a heart of gold.
