Joyce Campbell

26 julio , 194130 julio , 2020

Diana “Joyce” (Herrington) Campbell, 79, of Surprise, Arizona, formerly of Holly, Michigan, passed away on July 30, 2020, at Deer Valley Medical Center from complications related to heart and kidney failure.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, to James “Roy” and Shirley Herrington, Joyce moved to Holly as a young girl and was raised on the farm at Holly Hills with her siblings Marvin, Elaine, Gail and Lester Herrington. Preceding her in death were her mother and father, brother Marvin, sister Elaine, and beloved husband of 16 years, Robert Campbell, formerly of Holly, Michigan. Joyce is survived by her three children Carl (Robin) Garner of Holly, Michigan, Wayne Garner of Magnolia, Arkansas, and Brenda (Matt Matthews) Garner of Avondale, Arizona, as well as five stepchildren she always treated as her own David (Lisa) Campbell of Phoenix, Arizona, Laurie McCampbell of Prescott, Arizona, Susan (Todd) League of Chino Valley, Arizona, Kathi (Bobby) Terrell of Prescott, Arizona, and Melissa Campbell of Goodyear, Arizona, as well as 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A gifted student in high school, Joyce worked at the local Dairee Dyne during high school and enjoyed working in the orchards behind her house. Following high school, she worked various clerical positions, such as for the Village of Holly and the University of Michigan-Flint, as well as opening her own candle shop called the Candle Curio in historic Battle Alley of Holly, Michigan. After moving to Phoenix, Arizona, she worked for Ray Cammack Shows, Marriott Residential Senior Living, and the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute before retiring in 2012.

Besides an amazing mother, a loving grandmother, and a cherished great-grandmother, Joyce was an avid crafter! Following ceramics, latch hook, and cross-stitching adventures, she transformed an extra bedroom and added on a bonus crafting room where she spent countless hours turning various paper products into magical moments and precious gifts. Over the years, she taught ceramics and crafting to residents of Holly, Michigan, as well as to residents of Rose Garden 55+ Active Mobile Home Park in Surprise, Arizona, where she lived the last 18 years of her life. A philanthropist with her time, she served as the parks director of Helping Hands, which served meals to many residents in her community, and was active in church when she was able to drive.

Funeral arrangements will be provided by Sunland Mortuary in Sun City, Arizona. Visitation will be held Thursday morning, August 6th, 2020, from 9-11 with services performed by Todd League to follow. Interment will be at noon where she will be laid to rest, and reunited, alongside her beloved husband.

We are so glad we got to see Joyce when we were in Arizona in early March before everything shut down, sad we've lost her, and glad she had a life full of friends and helping others. We will miss her, and her crafts - we still have some of the things she made for the reunion when it was here in Colorado.

Everyone in my life and social circle knew who “Aunt Joyce “ was. To say she was a big part of my life is an understatement. She was the heart and historian of our family. She was my “second mom”, best crafting friend and my favorite “hostess”. Everything I know about throwing a dinner party and good old fashioned hospitality I learned from her. She was my sounding board, my adviser and best of all my friend. I will miss her every day. Spread your wings God’s special Angel, you so deserve an eternity of peace and happiness with your loved ones gone before you.

Joyce was a wonderful lady and neighbor. She was active in Helping Hands, our community program that reaches out to those in need. She was a Past- President of the organization. She will be missed by our community. May she rest in peace. Our deepest condolences to her family.

Joyce was always a special friend to everyone in the Holly Class of 1959. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word to say to everyone. We know she is in heaven with her family that has gone on before her. Joyce is probably working on a banquet for all in heaven and the centerpieces on the tables will be perfect.

Joyce was a 1959 graduate of Holly High School and long time friend to many of her classmates. She helped organize many class reunions before moving to Arizona and continued to make and send decorations for our 50th and 60th class reunions. My husband Cal and myself had occasion to visit their home(s) in Arizona and their hospitality was over the top. Heaven gained “A CRAFTY ANGEL”. R.I.P my friend and save me a place.

Mom I hope you know how much you meant to me and to our family. There are 53 and 3/4 years of memories. My favorite is: when I was young and would get tonsillitis you would be home with me and we would make cookies and you would give me your homeade hot chocolate. I have never forgotten how I felt during those times as I would get tonsillitis often during the winter months. I love you and miss you so much and even though I want you here with me I am happy you are with Dad, Aunt Elaine, Uncle Marvin, grandma and grandpa, aunt Diane And all my boys. Never goodbye but, until I see you again and beat your butt in skipbo.

There really are no words to describe the loss and love that this wonderful woman has been to my life. It really is a privilege and gift tat she called me hers and loved me in a way that there was never a question of whether or not she meant it. She taught me that love is worth the price, often a costly sacrifice. Mom, you took care of everything and every detail and we are so grateful for all you planned but the greatest gift you have given us is the way you lived out your faith In Christ Jesus so there would be no question on this day for us to wonder about. My heart is so happy to know we will be together again in heaven one day. I know Dad is so happy you’re finally there. My friend at church said today that she knew you were there working on all the details of the big banquet that’s being prepared, you’re in charge of all the tables and helping with all the decorations and making all the place cards making sure it’s going to be just perfect for when we all get there! I’m so glad for the gift of you and I’m so grateful to the Lord that he blessed me by letting me be part of your family. I will miss you Mom and I love you.
