Larry Joe Ford, 83, passed away on July 16, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Eldon, Missouri, to Edwin Freeman Ford and Ruby Mae Holaday Ford, Larry dedicated his life to education, coaching, and serving his community.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Elise; sons Sean and Stacy; grandchildren Jacob, Kurt, Skyler, and Summer; great-grandson Maverick; and sister Judy Bullard.
An Eagle Scout and graduate of Eldon High School (1960), Larry earned his Bachelor of Science from Drury College and Missouri State University, and his Master of Science from Oklahoma University. He served as a Methodist pastor in Schell City, Missouri, where he also taught science and coached basketball
Larry's passion for youth development led him to establish the first indoor soccer club in Neosho, Missouri, creating a safe space for children of all backgrounds. In 1983, he moved to Hobbs, New Mexico, where he founded the first boys' soccer program at Hobbs High School and later established the girls' program. His teams achieved remarkable success, including a state championship in 1997 and a runner-up finish in 2000
As a science educator, Larry led students to multiple victories in the New Mexico Science Olympiad, helping many earn college scholarships. Upon retirement, Larry and Elise moved to Sun City, Arizona, where he remained active in the Community Church, sang with The Choraliers, led bird walks for the Audubon Society, and played softball. He continued sharing his musical gifts at senior living facilities as a volunteer until his final days
Larry's legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched as an educator, coach, mentor, and devoted family man. His commitment to serving others and investing in youth created ripple effects that will benefit generations to come
A Memorial Service was held on August 10, 2025, at the Community Church of Sun City, Arizona.
