Lynda Briggs Dahlgren (1943-2025), a devoted daughter, friend, sister, wife, mother, and "Mormor," passed away peacefully on February 5, 2025, in Sun City, Arizona. She lived 81 vibrant years, always putting others before herself — teaching, coaching, entertaining, and cooking.
Lynda Jo Briggs was born on August 10, 1943, in Tucumcari, NM to Phillip and Lucille Briggs. She grew up on a farm in Portales, NM and attended Eastern New Mexico University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1965. It was there she met her husband, John Dahlgren, whom she shared 57 wonderful years of marriage.
The couple spent the first 14 years of their marriage teaching for the Roswell Independent School District. Lynda taught English and Physical Education, as well as coached multiple teams. In 1976, they became parents to their first daughter, Erika Lyn, and in 1979, welcomed their second daughter, Lisa Karyl. Shortly after they had the opportunity to move to Soldotna, Alaska. Lynda initially doubted the move, but Alaska captivated them both, and it became their home. In 1985, Lynda resumed her teaching career at Kalifornsky Beach Elementary, where she taught for 15 more years before retiring in 1999.
After retirement, Lynda and John became snowbirds. They traveled across the country visiting many national parks, family and friends. In 2005, tired of the constant winter travel, they decided to winter in Sun City, AZ, where they enjoyed many activities and beautiful weather. In 2009, they made Boise, ID their new summer home.
Lynda’s greatest joy was her family. She cherished her grandchildren, spoiling them with their favorite foods as well as traveling to all their activities. Always selfless, she was there for everyone. She supported John’s outdoor hobbies and entertaining gatherings for friends and family. Lynda loved to cook, play games, especially cards and spend time with family and friends. We could not have asked for a more selfless and loving individual and her absence will be missed every day.
Lynda’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Lucille Briggs, and her brothers, David and Gerald Briggs. She is survived by her loving husband, John; her brother, Tom; her daughters, Erika (Tim) and Lisa (Adam); and her six grandchildren, Tate, Kyla, Will, Amayah, Kyle, and Maya.
