

Natalie Marie Matthiesen, daughter of Edwin & Josephine Best, went to her heavenly home on July 9, 2020. She was born September 3, 1921, in Rochester, Minnesota. She spent her childhood years in Rochester and in her highschool years enjoyed playing the cello. Shortly after graduating, she met the love of her life and married Marvin Matthiesen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on September 22, 1940.
Shortly after their marriage, they moved from Rochester to Minneapolis, MN where she enjoyed being a full time homemaker, her life revolving around her husband and 4 children. She enjoyed fishing and canoeing as well as playing the organ. She had a gifted ear and could hear a song on the radio and could identify the key before too many bars had passed and could accompany the song beautifully on the organ keyboard. When Marv retired, they moved to Arizona where they enjoyed square dancing and she enjoyed working with ceramics until health problems interfered and then enjoyed playing cards on a regular basis.
She was active in the altar guild at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Robbinsdale, MN, and was a welcome ambassador and active in making Braille books at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City, AZ. She enjoyed her life in Arizona and never tired of watching and feeding hummingbirds.
She was preceded in death by 1 son, Roger in 1994, her husband of 68 years in 2009, 1 son, David in 2018, her parents, 2 sisters, and one brother. Left to cherish her memory are one sister, Ramona Broman of Savage, MN; her children, Dawn (Larry) Westphal of Spencer, IA; daughter-in-law, Karen (Roger) Matthiesen of Olney, MD, and Steven (Diane) Matthiesen of Summerfield, FL.; 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
