

Nelson was born in Danielson, CT on August 24, 1926 to the late Jacob and Frances Spaulding. Nelson was a proud graduate from Springfield College where he received his B.S. in Physical Education before attending Ithica College earning a Masters in Education. Nelson is survived by his wife of 57 years, Edith C. Spaulding.
Nelson was a great and humble man who dedicated most of his life to education, serving 32 years as either a teacher or administrator in the Binghamton, NY area. He retired from Susquehanna Valley Schools as the Assistant Superintendent in 1995.
Nelson was an active Binghamton and Sun City Gun Club member, loved to garden, and could build or repair anything from cars to buildings. Nelson raised his family in Conklin, NY and relocated to Sun City in the early 90s. He is best known for his kind heart and infectious sense of humor.
Nelson was predeceased by his youngest son Mark and survived by three children: Robert of Raleigh, NC; David of New York City; and Nancy of Washington, DC. He is also survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
A memorial service will be planned this fall in Conklin, NY.
